Correlated bets in betting

Correlated bets are selections whose outcomes influence each other. Combining them in one multiple changes the real probability from what simple multiplication suggests.

Multiplying odds assumes independence. If a team winning makes Over 2.5 more likely, the true joint probability is higher than the product, and the acca price you are offered is too short unless the operator has adjusted for it. Bookmakers price the well-known correlations carefully, which is exactly why same-game multiples carry heavy effective margins.

P(A and B) = P(A) x P(B | A), not P(A) x P(B), whenever the events are related.

Team to win at 1.80 (55.6%) and Over 2.5 at 1.90 (52.6%) multiply to 27.4%. But if the team winning genuinely raises the Over chance to 62%, the true joint probability is 34.5% — the naive price of 3.42 should really be near 2.90, and the book has usually already priced it that way or worse.

Correlation is the most misunderstood concept in multiples betting. It explains both why same-game parlays are so profitable for operators and where the rare positive-correlation edges hide.

Same-game multiples are pushed hard on Nigerian apps because the margin is so favourable to the house. Treat them as entertainment products, not value bets.

• Assuming a same-game multiple pays the naive multiplied price.
• Combining a team win with a clean sheet and calling it diversified.
• Ignoring correlation across separate bets placed on the same match.
