Clean sheet betting explained

A clean sheet bet wins when the nominated team concedes no goals in regulation time. It is offered per team, so both sides can be backed independently in the same fixture.

Own goals conceded count against the clean sheet. Extra time does not count unless the book states otherwise.

The maths is the simplest of any market here: if the opposition is expected to score 1.1 goals, the clean-sheet probability is e^-1.1 = 33.3%, fair odds 3.00. That is the whole calculation.

Clean sheet is also the direct complement of half the BTTS market — BTTS No happens when either side keeps a clean sheet — so if a book prices clean sheets and BTTS inconsistently, one of the two is wrong and the discrepancy is exploitable.

Backing clean sheets for strong defences against weak attacks at short prices. Even excellent defensive sides keep clean sheets in only about 40% of matches; the market is more random than reputation suggests.

Overlooking the underdog clean sheet. In low-scoring leagues, an away side setting up to contain keeps more clean sheets than its price implies.

In the NPFL and the Ghana Premier League, where BTTS lands only around a third of the time, home clean sheets are common enough that the market is genuinely worth pricing — a far better fit for African domestic football than any Over-based bet.
